Featurematching using quasi-conformalmaps Article

Chun-xue WANG, Li-gang LIU

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 5,   Pages 644-657 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1500411

Abstract: We present a fully automatic method for finding geometrically consistent correspondences while discarding outliers from the candidate point matches in two images. Given a set of candidate matches provided by scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) descriptors, which may contain many outliers, our goal is to select a subset of these matches retaining much more geometric information constructed by a mapping searched in the space of all diffeomorphisms. This problem can be formulated as a constrained optimization involving both the Beltrami coefficient (BC) term and quasi-conformal map, and solved by an efficient iterative algorithm based on the variable splitting method. In each iteration, we solve two subproblems, namely a linear system and linearly constrained convex quadratic programming. Our algorithm is simple and robust to outliers. We show that our algorithm enables producing more correct correspondences experimentally compared with state-of-the-art approaches.

Li Dejun,Lv Runhua,Wang Runtian

Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 5,   Pages 81-84

Abstract:

Slurry is widely used in construction projects, and it is important to control the slurry's physical characteristic properly. The acoustic method is used,  which can effectively monitor the physical parameters of slurry,  such as concentration. Data processing affects directly the precision in the measurement of slurry concentration by the sound attenuation and velocity. Based on the fuzzy pattern recognition, data are sorted and further classified, with cooperative clustering algorithm.

Correspondence: A low-profile dual-polarization programmable dual-beam scanning antenna array Perspective

Shichao ZHU, Yuanfan NING, Hongbo CHU, Pei XIAO, Gaosheng LI,Gaosheng7070@vip.163.com

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 10,   Pages 1504-1512 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2300253

Abstract: A low-profile dual-polarization dual-beam scanning antenna array based on holographic control theory is presented in this paper. The radiating elements are ingeniously designed to achieve reconfigurable polarization and modulation of the radiation phase by controlling the state of the PIN diodes integrated on each element. A 72-channel series-parallel equal-amplitude and in-phase feeding network is integrated with the radiating array to achieve low-profile characteristics. The two-dimensional (2D) dynamic and accurate deflection of the beam is achieved by a designed direct current (DC) bias circuit that digitally encodes the antenna array using the single-chip microcontroller. A 2-element subarray and a 6×12 array have been fabricated and the digitally controllable radiation pattern of this antenna system has been experimentally verified. The antenna system can achieve the beam scanning of -30° to 30° with a step-scan of 5° at 11 GHz. The proposed antenna system is characterized by low profile, low cost, easy integration, and accurate beam steering, and holds broad application prospects in radar systems, smart antennas, and other fields.

Correspondence: Uncertainty-aware complementary label queries for active learning Perspective

Shengyuan LIU, Ke CHEN, Tianlei HU, Yunqing MAO,liushengyuan@zju.edu.cn,chenk@cs.zju.edu.cn,htl@zju.edu.cn,myq@citycloud.com.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 10,   Pages 1497-1503 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200589

Abstract: Many active learning methods assume that a learner can simply ask for the full annotations of some training data from annotators. These methods mainly try to cut the annotation costs by minimizing the number of annotation actions. Unfortunately, annotating instances exactly in many real-world classification tasks is still expensive. To reduce the cost of a single annotation action, we try to tackle a novel active learning setting, named active learning with complementary labels (ALCL). ALCL learners ask only yes/no questions in some classes. After receiving answers from annotators, ALCL learners obtain a few supervised instances and more training instances with complementary labels, which specify only one of the classes to which the pattern does not belong. There are two challenging issues in ALCL: one is how to sample instances to be queried, and the other is how to learn from these complementary labels and ordinary accurate labels. For the first issue, we propose an uncertainty-based sampling strategy under this novel setup. For the second issue, we upgrade a previous ALCL method to fit our sampling strategy. Experimental results on various datasets demonstrate the superiority of our approaches.

Correspondence: Monopulse transmitarray antenna fed by aperture-coupled microstrip structure Correspondence

Na KOU, Shixing YU, Zhao DING, Zhengping ZHANG,nkou@gzu.edu.cn,sxyu1@gzu.edu.cn,zding@gzu.edu.cn,zpzhang@gzu.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2022, Volume 23, Issue 3,   Pages 502-510 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000547

Abstract: Monopulse technique, also known as the simultaneous beam comparison method, is used mainly to measure the direction of arrival (DOA) (Sherman and Barton, 2011). Before the advent of monopulse technology, the method most widely used in radar direction finding was the lobe-switching technique (sequential lobing) (Lo, 1999). Compared with the sequential lobing method, the monopulse antenna can obtain information such as the pitch angle, azimuth angle, and distance of the target in a single pulse period (Vazquez-Roy et al., 2019). Due to the need for higher accuracy of angle measurement, the monopulse technique has been widely applied in SOTM missile guidance (Roy et al., 2019). When a monopulse system is working, multiple independent channels are adopted to receive signals reflected by targets at the same time. Then signals enter the comparator and finally the distance and angle information of targets can be obtained. There are three main types of monopulse antennas: lenses, reflectors, and arrays. A dielectric lens is generally a convex lens (Raman et al., 1998), which is difficult to manufacture due to its curved shape, high volume, and large mass. For common reflectors such as dish antennas, the feed and supporting structure are in front of the aperture, so a shielding effect will result in energy loss, sidelobe increase, and angle measurement error (Kou and Cheng, 2019). A more effective reflector is the Cassegrain antenna, which is more compact with dual reflectors (Zheng et al., 2016, 2017). However, the Cassegrain antenna has the problem of shielding effect caused by a secondary reflector and support rods. With growing demand for low cost and lightweight monopulse antennas in modern radar and telecommunications systems, array antennas are increasingly applied in monopulse antennas due to their characteristics of high gain and easy control of the beam direction. A typical example is the waveguide slot array, which has the advantages of low loss, low sidelobe level, and no aperture shielding problem (Vosoogh et al., 2018). The microstrip has attracted much attention in monopulse antennas because of its advantages of low profile, simple structure, and low cost (Yu et al., 2009; Kumar and Kumar, 2018). However, monopulse microstrip array antennas usually have a complex feed network, which often makes them large and expensive. In addition, substrate integrated waveguides (SIWs) (Cao et al., 2017; Zhu et al., 2018; Liu et al., 2019; Yang et al., 2019) and leaky wave antennas (LWAs) (Poveda-García et al., 2019) have been applied in monopulse antennas, with good results. Recently, reflectarrays have been proposed for use in monopulse antennas, and have shown good performance (Zhao et al., 2017, 2018). As an alternative to reflectarrays, transmitarrays not only have the advantages of reflectarrays, but also have no shielding effect from the feeds. Di Palma et al. (2016) proposed a 400-element reconfigurable transmitarray antenna to synthesize monopulse radiation patterns. However, the sum and difference patterns generated by the reconfigurable transmitarray antenna, which is controlled electronically by switches instead of by a SUM-DIFF comparator, are in time division.

Multi-View Point-Based Registration for Native Knee Kinematics Measurement with Feature Transfer Learning Article

Cong Wang, Shuaining Xie, Kang Li, Chongyang Wang, Xudong Liu, Liang Zhao, Tsung-Yuan Tsai

Engineering 2021, Volume 7, Issue 6,   Pages 881-888 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2020.03.016

Abstract:

Deep-learning methods provide a promising approach for measuring in-vivo knee joint motion from fast registration of two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) data with a broad range of capture. However, if there are insufficient data for training, the data-driven approach will fail. We propose a feature-based transfer-learning method to extract features from fluoroscopic images. With three subjects and fewer than 100 pairs of real fluoroscopic images, we achieved a mean registration success rate of up to 40%. The proposed method provides a promising solution, using a learning-based registration method when only a limited number of real fluoroscopic images is available.
